STREIFEL - Sam Streifel of Balcarres and formerly of Grayson beloved husband of Hilda, passed away at home in his favorite chair on October 19th 2014, at the age of 88. Sam was born on September 16, 1926 in the Leader, SK district. A son to Peter and Barbara (Wickenheiser) Streifel. Sam's mother passed away when he was 18 months old. His father then married Mary Mastal and the family moved to Grayson in 1928. Sam quit school when he was 16 to find work in Melville. At age 19 Sam met the love of his life, Hilda (Novak) and they married in 1948. The first years of their married life were spent in Waldron. Sam ran a trucking business out of Grayson for 5 years. From 1955-1964 they farmed north of Grayson. In April 1964 they moved to Melville and worked in construction until 1973 at which time they moved to Regina. He was truly happy working for Neil's Jensen construction until he retired in 1989 and moved back to Grayson. They enjoyed many years at the lake, Fishing, traveling, host on bus tours, putting up christmas lights helping neighbours and being around family and friends. Three years ago they moved to Parkview Manor a senior's home in Balcarres and enjoyed spending time with their new friends. Sam always had the biggest smile when he saw his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sam was a member of the Knights of Columbus, past president of the Senior Club, involved with church council, taught Religious Education and faith was very important to him. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Barbara Streifel, his step-mother and step-father Mary and John G. Gelowitz, his brother Paul, his brother Pius (Pidy) and wife Glenda, his sisters and brothers-in-law Doris and Chris Appel, Tina and Gus Gelowitz, brothers-in-law Mike Hornung, Mike Ottenbreit and Manny Ross; and grandson Christopher Famulak. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 67 years, Hilda; and their children Larry (Leona) Streifel of Regina; Verna Famulak of Yorkton; Sandy (Kirby) Korchinski of Balcarres and their families. Sam is also survived by his brother Wendel (Bernice) Streifel, sisters Wilma (Al) Beutel, Mary Ross, Barbara Hornung, and Agnes Peace; sisters-in-law, Hilda Novak, Betty Exner, Doris Flegel, brother-in-law Jack (Margaret) Novak; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
