Obituary of Winnifred Marjorie Groome

GROOME - Winnie Groome passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 20, 2014 at the Ituna Pioneer Lodge. A special thank you to the caregivers who provided her excellent care for the past 5 years and especially to friend Marlene Tymiak for her assistance and caring for Mum's extra needs. She is survived by son Keith (Dianne), daughter-in-law Doloris, grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris), Allison (Kenny) and Jeremiah, great grandchildren Adalyn, Owen, Emily and Evan. She was predeceased by husband Fred and son George. Winnie celebrated her 102nd birthday in February. She was a war bride who immigrated to Canada from England in 1948. She was terribly homesick and cried for a month but came to love Kelliher as her home and made many lifelong friends. She was loved and admired by all and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She witnessed many changes in the world. Every time we spoke in recent years she expressed how fortunate she was to have enjoyed such a long life. She loved her Family and always wanted to be involved with their activities. She was proud of her boys and loved by her daughter-in-laws. Her grandchildren brought great joy to her and most recently her great grandchildren always brought a big smile to her face. We love you Mum and will always miss you. God Bless and rest in peace. The funeral service was held on Friday, October 24, 2014 from St. Vladimir's Church in Kelliher with Rev. Ken Buchan of the Anglican Church of Canada officiating. Marlene Tymiak was the lay-reader, and Winnie's son Keith gave the eulogy. Organist, Esta Sewatman, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Nearer My God To Thee', and 'Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling'. The interment took place in the family plot in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens with Jeremiah, Glen & Wayne Groome, Chris Diggle, Kenny Chuchmuch and Gerry Tripp serving as the casketbearers. .Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
