ROBERTS - Mrs. Doreen Roberts of Yorkton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26th 2014 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 91 years of age. Elspeth Norma Doreen Roberts was born on September 12, 1923. She was raised on the family farm near Bangor. Daughter of Alexander and Caroline (nee Campbell) Shaw, the seventh child of nine. Doreen was united in marriage to Owen Roberts April 6, 1942. The family first resided on a farm in the Llewelyn district, then in Bangor for three years, finally on a farm south of Bangor until 1963, when the family moved into Yorkton. They had five children: son Gordon, daughters Karen, Sherril, Tanya and Gayla. After the children were born Doreen completed her grade XII, received her Bachelor of Education and taught in the Yorkton School system until her retirement in 1986. She was an avid musician, enjoyed sporting activities, travelling, the lake, her grandchildren & great grandchildren. Doreen was predeceased by her husband Owen (1996); daughter-in-law Brenda (1992); brothers Stewart, Gordon & Ian Shaw; sisters Frances Shaw, Jean Hern & Zelda Arnott. Survived by sisters Joyce Kuby of Winnipeg, Patsy Tummon of Toronto, and sister-in-law Shirley Heloffs of Winnipeg. Children and grandchildren: Gordon (Carol Cole)- Kendra (Dale Glover), Kordell (Jackie)- Colton, Auston; Karen (Ray Thies)- Tamela (Martin King)-Tristan, Teague, Kyla-Owen, Ian, Tyler; Sherril; Tanya (Kim McShane)- Kelly, Tyson (Jeanna)- Elspeth; Keegan; Gayla (Dean Petersen)-Janna (Darren), Elyse (Cameron). The funeral service was held on Monday, December 1st 2014 from Westview United Church in Yorkton with Rev. Susan Griffith officiating. Family tributes were given by Gordon, Karen, Sherril, Tanya & Gayla. Organist, Laurene Jemieff and pianist, Shani Apland led members of Westview & St. Andrew's United Church as well as members of the Yorkton Community Choir in the singing of the hymns 'Jesus, You Have Come to the Lakeshore', and 'She Comes Sailing on the Wind'. The choirs sang 'Angels Through the Night;' as the anthem. The recessional was 'Going Home', played by Doreen's niece Wendy Tummon. The urn bearer was Kyla Thies. The interment will take place in the spring of 2015 in the Bangor Cemetery. Memorials were to the Bangor Cemetery Fund or to the CFUW Scholarship Fund. Service Information
