DECKERT - Sidney Irvin Deckert was born on July 22, 1932 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan; a son of Eileen (nee Garbe) and Joseph Deckert. Joe and Eileen had moved to Yorkton in 1930, where they established the Paris Beauty Salon and Barber Shop on Betts Ave. Sidney was raised in Yorkton and had received his education at the local schools. As a young man Sidney began working for the Dept. of Highways in Yorkton but continued to reside at home. Following the death of Joe in September of 1981, Sidney continued to reside with his mother Eileen, and looked after her as her health began to decline, right up until her passing in January of 2008. Although Sidney faced many personal challenges of his own, he continued on his daily life as best he could. With the help of his close friend Frank, and the daily assistance of Home Care he was able to function and remain in his home. Sidney passed away on Monday, December 29th 2014 at the Regina General Hospital following a brief illness. He was 82 years of age. Besides his mother and father, Sidney was predeceased by numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by many cousins and their families. The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 10th 2015 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Kevin Bundus of Yorkton Faith Ministries officiating. Hymns sung were 'Amazing Grace and 'How Great Thou Art'. Dewey Thiele read the obituary and gave a tribute to Sidney. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark with Francis, James & Vincent Bielka, Joe Gurber, John Kucharski and Albert Pobereznek serving as the casketbearers.
