Obituary of Joseph John Szarkowicz

Joseph John Szarkowicz was born on February 3, 1928 on the family farm in the Spondon School district, south west of Ituna, Sask to Stanley and Lucy ( nee Grzebinski) Szarkowicz. He was raised on the family farm and attended Spondon School. As a young man Joe worked for a few winters for Ontario & Manitoba Hydro Power Commission and he also worked for Co-op Evicerating plant in Regina before returning home to take over the family farm. On June 27, 1960 Joe was united in marriage to Molly Patsula at St. Stanislaus RC church in Ituna. Together they raised a family of 2 daughters & 1 son, while running a mixed farming operation. During his years on the farm, Joe learned skills with small appliance repair, a hobby that continued into his retirement years. He also was an avid honeybee keeper. He enjoyed tinkering in the shop and building things. Joe had been a member of the St. Stanislaus RC church board and served on the Spondon School board. In 1993, Joe & Molly moved into Ituna but Joe still remained active in helping Mike on the farm. Joe's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting, playing 3 spot, going dancing with Molly to country school dances, and eating a good bowl of homemade cabbage soup which he called medicine. Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 22, 2015 in Balcarres after a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by his beloved wife Molly on October 29, 2011, parents Stanley and Lucy, brothers Andrew, John, Stan and a brother in infancy, his sisters Sophie in infancy, Mary, Ann, Frances, Jean and Emily. He leaves to mourn, daughter Agnes (Gerald) Petrowski, son Micheal and his children Presley and Troydon, daughter Brenda (Mitch) Kolanko and their children Tasha & Kenton. Brothers Frank and Ted, sister Stella and brother in law Pete Lambert, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
