Obituary of John Sawchyn
SAWCHYN - Mr. John Sawchyn of St. Anne's Home in Ituna, formerly of the Bankend district entered eternal rest on August 14, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville. He was 97 years of age. John was born on the family farm three miles east of Fenwood to Michael and Effamia (Nee Rygus). He spent his early years working on the family farm and for others farmers in the area. In 1946, John married Katherine (Hajewich) and settled a farm near Bankend in 1948. During this time they had three children; Sharron, Don and Derick. His wife Katherine has passed away in 1994. John spent until 2011 working on his farm as well as working for the R. M. of Emerald from 1968 to 1983. Since 2011, John resided at St. Anne's in Ituna. John enjoyed working and maintaining his farm, playing musical instruments and very much enjoyed visits from family and friends and neighbours. John was predeceased by his wife Katherine; his parents Michael and Effamia; his brothers Peter, William, Nicolas, Russel and Alex; his sister Ann. He is survived by his sister Olga and brothers Edward (Helen) and Ernest. His children Sharron, Don (Aline), and Derick. His grandchildren Cindy, Pam, Jeremy, Nicolas, Tyler. His great grandchildren Spencer and Emily. He will be truly missed. Prayers were held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Wishart. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church with Rev. Father Jeffrey Stephaniuk as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Nicole Stephaniuk and members of the Parish Choir. Serving as the cross bearers were Aline Sawchyn & Spencer Wrishko. The epistle reader was Lorraine Woynarski. The interment followed in the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ Parish in Bankend with Jeremy Sawchyn, Nicholas Sawchyn, Tyler Sawchyn, Barry Hajewich, Dave Kozakewich and Garry Sawchyn serving as the casket bearers.
