Obituary of Alan Leroy Torgerson
Alan Torgerson was born October 25, 1942 to Irene (nee Howe) & Eric Torgerson. He spent his first few years in Springside & then the family moved to the farm. His sister Lois was born 7 years later. His father was a mechanic & taught him about fixing vehicles - it was a skill he used throughout his life. The family moved to Yorkton in 1962 where Alan attended high school. In 1964 he began his 34 year career working for SaskTel; he loved his job & said he was fortunate to have such a great one. He met Hazel Robertson of Yorkton, & in July 1965 they were married. They settled in Melville where their children Shelley & Blair were born. Their neighbours & colleagues became steadfast friends - they spent many an evening playing cards & socializing. The family enjoyed camping in their tent trailer every summer & had several adventures & made many special memories traveling throughout Canada & the the U.S. Blair started hunting with Alan at an early age - they chased geese for many years & continued to hunt together until last fall. He loved to fish, & for more than 40 years there were many trips to Jan Lake with family & close friends. Alan loved to curl & had so many entertaining stories of games at bonspiels & the great people he met curling. In 1974 Alan began his Scouting career when Blair became a Cub; Alan then became involved with the Wilderness Rendezvous Camp at Cypress Hills & was actively involved at all levels of WR for 35 years. The Scouting community at WR became a special family to him & Hazel. After the children were grown, Alan began to golf regularly & tried many different golf courses in the area. Alan was fascinated by vehicles of all kinds - he was avid reading about them, talking about them & looking at them. Most of his stories were referenced by remembering which vehicle was owned or involved at the time. Alan was thrilled to become a grandfather to five grandchildren. He loved playing with them when they were small & was interested in all they did. He laughed often at the stories of their antics - & was involved in several of them. The grandchildren relished his teasing & dessert stealing. Alan enjoyed people - he could strike up an entertaining conversation with anyone, & he loved visiting & reminiscing. He passed away peacefully in Regina on August 20, 2015 with his family at his side. They will miss his frequent laugh, his twinkling eyes & comforting presence. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Irene, his sister, Lois & his in-laws Harry & Nellie Robertson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Hazel, his daughter Shelley (David) Kehrig of Calgary, son Blair (Tracey) of Saskatoon & grandchildren Erin, Marina & Trent Kehrig, & Ryan & Craig Torgerson, as well as many other special relatives and dear friends.
