Obituary of Frances Sobkow

SOBKOW - Mrs. Frances Sobkow of Duck Lake, former;ly of Wroxton entered her Eternal Home - Heaven on February 1, 2016 just a month short of her 100th birthday. Frances was born on March 1, 1916 in the Stornoway District, a daughter of Wasyl and Maria Dombroski. She received her elementary education at Angove School and Grade 9 and 10 at Yorkton Collegiate High School. After school she remained on the farm with her widowed mother to help take care of the farm. On October 18, 1936 Frances was united in marriage to Michael Sobkow at St. Mary's Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The couple farmed in the Calder District raising their family. She kept busy cooking, baking, farm chores, sewing and growing a large garden of vegetables. She preserved many jars of vegetables and fruit which filled the cellar each fall. Her famous Brown Sugar Dills were enjoyed by all and not a single family party went by without a jar of them. Frances enjoyed the beauty of nature as well as reading painting and singing. She sang in the choir at St. Mary's country church along with her husband who was the cantor. They attended church regularly, praying and trusting in the Lord daily ensuring the children were raised with Christian values. Being artistically talented Frances made a small grotto and painted a picture of Jesus and his mother Mary which was surrounded by beautiful flowers all summer where she spent time meditating. The greatest joy came from her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Her generosity to her family, church, charitable organizations, hospitals and needy children will never be forgotten. She was always willing and ready to give a helping hand. In 1974 after her husband's passing she moved to Wroxton, Saskatchewan. Gardening was her passion and she grew many varieties of flowers which the family compared to Bouchard Gardens. Family, friends, neighbors and even strangers stopped by to enjoy her beautiful flowers. She supplied arrangements for the Wroxton Church for Sunday services and even supplied flowers for several weddings. She loved travelling and made a trip to British Columbia, Disney World and New York. In 2005 Frances moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to live with her daughter Liz, where she still enjoyed outings and gardening on a smaller scale. In 2009 she moved to Duck Lake to live with her daughter Marge and son in law Lloyd. A gardener at heart she was still able to garden with Marge. Many flowers from her Wroxton garden were transplanted in Marge's backyard. She continued to make an annual trip to Wroxton each summer. As her health further declined she moved to Goodwill Manor Care Home in May of 2013, 2 blocks from Marge and Lloyd's house. Still enjoying planting potted plants with help and visiting at Marge's house as often as possible. She made a trip to Edmonton in 2013 and a trip to Yorkton in 2014 as she still had a great desire to travel. We will miss you Mom, Baba……Pray for us all. The Family.
