Obituary of Stanley John Prayda
PRAYDA - Stanley John Prayda was born on August 16, 1921 in Ituna Sk. He was the oldest of four children of Steve and Annie (Huniak) Prayda, growing up in the Olga School District. He farmed until 1990 on the Prayda homestead, retired to Yorkton and came back to Ituna in 2010 to be closer to family. Stanley spent his life on the farm. He was an avid grain and cattle farmer, running his own production. He took pride in teaching his son the way of the farm and working alongside him until retiring. He would spend hours upon hours tinkering in his extremely organized shop and garage, fixing things in his own way. He enjoyed going to auction sales, always adding to his collection. Stanley spent time with his buddies at the local pool hall, beer parlor and coffee shop. Once Stanley moved to Yorkton along with his partner Polly, it allowed him to take a step back from farming. He spent most of his time enjoying camping, fishing, and going to many dances. He treasured spending time with his granddaughters, always enjoying their visits, and watching them grow into lovely young ladies. We will remember him having a grin on his face, toothpick in his mouth and hand on his chin. When Stanley moved back to Ituna, this abled him to spend more time with his sisters and granddaughters. He enjoyed going out on his scooter to do his errands up town. He was a quiet, patient and independent man who rarely asked of others. Stanley entered eternal rest on Monday May 9, 2016 at the age of 94. Stanley was predeceased by parents Steve and Annie Prayda, sisters Mary Federko, Sophie Kaczmar and son Leonard Prayda. He will be dearly missed by his only son Ivan and his wife Judy, granddaughters, Kayleigh, Kirsten and Kendall, sister Victoria Kobialko of Ituna, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, May 13th 2016 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Father Albert Schmitz, Celebrant. The Crossbearers were grandchildren Kendall & Kayleigh, the Lay-readers were Kirsten & Kayleigh, Kendall read the Prayers of the Faithful, and the gift-bearers were Kendall & Kirsten. Organist, Paulette van der Helm led members of the Parish Choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns, 'Be Not Afraid, 'Amazing Grace', 'Gift of Finest Wheat', and 'Every Valley'.
