Obituary of Lena Shebeluk
Lena passed away on October 22, 2016 with her family at her side at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Lena was born in the Calder District to George and Alexandra (Andoney) Bewcyk on August 31, 1920, where they settled after immigrating to Canada from Austria and Ukraine. She was the youngest of seven children, of which all are now deceased. She attended Verbaska School in the Calder district until grade 8. In earlier years, she worked in the Winnipeg Hospital for a couple of years, returning home as she was needed. Lena was kind and was also a very good cook, Steve "could not help but marry her" in January of 1945. After their marriage, they farmed together with her learning to operate trucks and tractors. She loved growing and preserving her big garden. Her favorite plantings included apples, strawberries and raspberries. She also loved to read and quilt. Lena and Steve enjoyed travelling, they travelled to Alaska a couple of times and spent winters in Arizona. In 2004 Lena and Steve semi-retired and moved to Yorkton and continued with only grain farming. Lena was predeceased by her parents Alexandra and George, her daughter Marvelyn Balabuk as well as her siblings. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life, her loving husband Steve Shebeluk; son Cliff (May), son-in-law Walter Balabuk; five grandchildren; Jason (Rhoda), Valerie (Mel), Trevor (Elana), Halian and Amber; great grandchildren; Brennan, Justin, Landon, Emmerson and Riezel and special friends to the family, Bernice Juzyniec and Mary Schick, as well as many nieces and nephews.
