Obituary of Alan Thomas

Alan Thomas, beloved husband of Joan, of the RM of Orkney, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, June 5th 2017. A private family funeral will be held in Yorkton, with the interment to take place in the Yorkton City Cemetery. David Alan John Thomas was born on March 27, 1957 in Carmarthen Wales UK. He grew up on Llwynhaf Farm in Llanddarog Wales with his mother, father, older sister and brother. As a young lad he enjoyed clay pigeon shooting, a member of the young farmers club, was an accomplished boxer and he always enjoyed having a pint at Polyn Pub with his many friends. After grades school he attended Gelli-Aur College where he took agriculture studies. In December 1976 Alan attended the Queen's Ball where he met the love of his life Joan Morgan. A year later they were engaged and on June 2, 1979 they were married in Felindre Nebo Chapel. As a newly married lad, Alan worked at the market in the family owned food stall selling homemade goods, along with his own dairy farm. In 1980 they welcomed their first daughter Marie and 2 years later their second daughter Bethan. In 1988 they were blessed again with their son Gerwyn. On February 22, 1993 they made the courageous decisions to immigrate to Canada where they bought a dairy farm in Steinbach MB. In 2001 they made yet another leap, they moved to Stornoway SK switching the farming operations from dairy to beef. Alan enjoyed many things in his life, some of his favorites were trips home to Wales for family events or an Anniversary cruise to Alaska with his wife, working on the farm with his son and having a cup of tea with his daughters. There was nothing more important to Alan than his family, he always looked forward to spending time with his children, grandchildren and especially his wife. During his time living in SK he worked as a farmer, oil patch worker, truck driver and eventually back in the oil patch. In November 2015 Alan was diagnosed with MSA (multiple system atrophy) a fast moving degenerative disease, which forever changed his life. On June 5, 2017 at the age of 60 Alan's short debilitating battle came to a sudden and very tragic end. Alan will forever be remembered as an open minded, soft hearted, hardworking, all around family man, who would give anyone the shirt off his back and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Alan is predeceased by his mother Iros Thomas, father John (Jack) Thomas, granddaughter Morgan Lee Thomas, grandson Oliver Thomas, grandparents, in laws and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Alan is survived by his wife Joan Thomas, daughters Marie (Dale) Berglund, Bethan Thomas (Paul Haughton), son Gerwyn (Jannah) Thomas, grandchildren Kevin & Katherine Berglund, Ashton, Jenneva, Mya Thomas/Haughton, Sophia Thomas, sister Joyce Donaldson, brother Phillip (Vickie) Thomas and other extended family.
