Obituary of Robert John "Jack" Wruth

WRUTH - Jack Wruth of Yorkton, aged 67, left this world peacefully with his family at his side on September 7, 2017. Jack (Robert John) Wruth was born in Gainsborough, SK on April 28, 1950 to Russell and Ethel Wruth. He was the second oldest of four children. During his youth, he worked the family farm with his Dad learning many life principles, took jobs around his home town, Carievale, SK, and finished high school. He left home in 1968 and worked at the Weyburn Mental Health Centre where he became a student and met Arlene Vidomsky. He graduated as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in 1972 and moved to Prince Albert with Arlene after their wedding on June 23, 1972. In 1974, Jack left nursing and moved to Regina to work for a pharmaceutical company until moving to Springside, in 1976. Jack managed the Muffler & Shock Shop, but was an entrepreneur at heart. In 1982, he opened the Midas Muffler Shop in Yorkton and proceeded to open two additional locations in Brandon, MB and Moose Jaw, SK. Jack was a businessman, and more importantly, a family man. During these early years he proudly welcomed the arrival of his daughter, Andrea and son, James. After selling three Midas shops, consulting with the Business Development Bank of Canada and selling for Case IH, Jack found his calling and joined Re/Max Reality in 1992 as a Commercial Real Estate Agent. He could always see future potential whether in business, finance or people, and was happy to have the opportunity to purchase the Re/Max franchise in 2005. Since then, the brokerage has grown from 5 to nearly 40 people and has won countless awards as a brokerage and as individuals; most notably Top Brokerage Western Canada, Top Brokerage Canada, Recruiter of the Year and Brokerage of the Year (Re/Max small market). What was most important to Jack was seeing people succeed. Jack's success came from lifting others and his wish in life came true: He brought people together. Jack once wrote, "I have a monumental wish; to gather decent, hardworking, ethical and generous people together to work cooperatively where everyone wins, prospers, takes pride in themselves and drives each other forward. We are on a journey together that will not end when we do." Jack never passed up an opportunity to be with family and friends whether that was hunting, fishing, travelling, talking, listening, playing games or any adventure that took him outdoors. From children to grandparents, no one was excluded. Family gatherings included many friends who were thought of as family, and were times filled with fun, food, card games, jokes, costumes and the occasional skit. He loved surprising his grandchildren with many special gifts. He was exceptionally generous. When asked to describe Jack, words are not enough. He was a man of principle and integrity. Doing things the right way - all the way - and doing ones very best was his way. Jack was patient, calm, resilient, resourceful, fearless, trusting, charismatic, responsible and a pillar of strength. He was a storyteller, a teacher, a coach, a golfer, a Santa Claus, a strategist, a Boy Scout leader, a visionary for change, an entrepreneur, a curler, an advisor and a man of a thousand jokes. He was a respectful son, the greatest dad, a giving husband, a wonderful grandfather, an excellent uncle, a trusting son-in-law, an affectionate brother and a smart business partner. He had a way of motivating others and seeing the best in them. Jack loved a good conversation and the warmth of a good meal. In 1995, Jack was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. Most did not know of his condition because throughout his difficult medical journey, he maintained his dignity, stayed steadfast, determined, good humoured, patient and hopeful. He was a survivor. Jack is survived by his daughter Andrea (Toni) Ivan and grandchildren Samantha and Alexander, son James (Colleen) Wruth and grandchildren Gabrielle, Charlotte and Julia, sister Carol Harder, sister Mary Ellen (Larry) Benjamin, former wife Arlene Wruth and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Jack is predeceased by his parents Russell Llewellyn and Ethel Anna (nee Campbell) Wruth, in-laws Elsie and Frank Vidomsky, brother Gordon, brother-in-law Abe Harder, exceptional friend Gary Ladner, grandparents and many aunts and uncles. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Jen Dresser of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. A eulogy was conveyed by Mary Ellen Benjamin and a scripture reading was presented by Mark Harder I included in the service were musical selections, 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong and 'My Way' by Frank Sinatra. Serving as urn bearers were Angela Charlebois and Ryan Benjamin. The interment will take place at a later date.
