Obituary
Obituary of Bill Kowalyk
William Kowalyk: son, brother, friend, Uncle Bill to all who knew him. Bill was born on the family farm June 24, 1928 to Joe and Anne (Tataryn) Kowalyk. He was the only surviving brother to six sisters. He was predeceased by three brothers in infancy, his sisters Sylvia Connelly and Ollie Ingram, and a niece and two nephews: Cathy, Michael, and Jonathan. He is survived by sisters Pauline Smysnuik, Nettie (Paul) Pawliw, Iris (George) Wood, and Diane (John Protz) Olech. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, and 38 grand nieces and grand nephews. Bill spent his entire life on the family farm, working the land and raising cattle. He had a special gift working with his cattle - and it was only when flooded fence lines became too much of a chore to fix that he finally decided to give up his cattle. Bill was very community minded and spent many hours supporting Churchill church and hall. He also enjoyed curling and hunting. Uncle Bill was a loyal Blue Jay fan, a history buff, and an avid reader. Bill loved to socialize and was happiest when family was around. He especially loved holiday get-togethers. Bill was fiercely independent. He lived on the farm and raised cattle until two years ago. Even once he moved into St. Anne's, he still made daily trips to the farm, weather permitting. Just this last year he was picking mushrooms and directing the girls exactly where to go to find the best ones. Uncle Bill's nieces and nephews were his pride and joy. He always had a bag of candy, wagon wheels, and loonies and toonies for us. While all of us have our own special memories of Uncle Bill, we cherished Uncle Bill's farm as our very own amusement park. There we experienced the petting zoo, the straw bale mazes, the tractor races, the chicken plucking, and the par three golf course. We especially enjoyed the gopher ranch where we were able to hone our shooting skills. While the larger-than-life curator of the amusement park is no longer there, these memories will live on in our many photographs, paintings, and in our hearts. Good night, sweet prince. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. Service Information
