Obituary of John O'Byrne

O'BYRNE, John Edgar It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John O'Byrne of Melville, SK on Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, at the age of 92 years. John was born on February 6, 1926 near Gray, SK to Mark and Lavina (McAllister) O'Byrne. He received his early education at Gough and Lewvan Schools, with post-secondary at Campion College, Regina graduating from the Agricultural Program in 1945. Too young to aid in the war effort that was waning, John worked at several jobs from bell-hop to flying for Regina Air Services to custom combining, never too far from the family farm and the siblings there, doing much of the farm work with his father. John married Irene Trudeau in 1950 in Prince Albert, SK and together lived in Lewvan, SK where they raised their family of four. John continued to grain farm and became a grain buyer for Pioneer Grain; moving to Weyburn in 1978 to continue at their larger terminal; retiring in 1991 as an agent for SK Crop Insurance. John epitomized the values and integrity of rural Saskatchewan communities and kept life-long friends. Left to cherish his memory: Irene, beloved wife of 67 years; daughters- Louise (Paul) Tetreault of Melville, SK; Valerie (Greg) Warnock of Trochu, AB; sons- Dennis of Vancouver, BC; Mark (Cheryl) of Calgary, AB; Grandchildren; Kelly (Karen) Moran, Grande Prairie, AB, Grady Moran, Camrose, AB, Danielle (Wade) Sakundiak and Michelle (Corvin) Poulin, Regina, SK; Chelsea O'Byrne and Natasha O'Byrne, Vancouver, BC. Great-grandchildren: Ashtyn and Coryl Moran, Kai and Kobe Poulin, Charlotte and Lucy Sakundiak; Brothers; Leonard (Rose), Raymond (Margaret), Cecil (Eleanor); sister; Eileen O'Byrne; sister-in-law; Anne O'Byrne, sisters and brothers-in-law, George/Vivian Dion, Gerard/Kay Page' and numerous nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by brothers; Leslie (in childhood), Leo, and Joseph; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne (Norman) McGrath, (Bill Ulrich), Stella (Jim) Kirk; Dorothy (Douglas) Young, Yvette Page'; granddaughter, Holly Moran and nephew, Patrick Kirk.
