Obituary of Mary Balint
BALINT - Mrs. Mary Balint of Yorkton, Saskatchewan passed away on May 1, 2018 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Mary was born April 16, 1922 in Ituna Saskatchewan to parents Anna (Kobialka) and Nicholas Dorosh. She attended Ituna public school until grade ten and completed grades eleven and twelve at Sacred Heart Institute (Academy) in Yorkton. Following graduation she attended Normal School (teachers' college) in Regina. Her first teaching position was at Jaraslow School near Otthon where she met and married John Balint. Together they farmed near Otthon. Mary continued teaching for several more years at Otthon School. Their children, Rosanne, Joanne and Bryan were born while they lived on the farm. Mary and John were involved in many community efforts. They loved country dances and especially playing cards with their Sliz nephews. Mary also loved gardening, canning and caring for her family. In 1962 they moved to Yorkton where she was a substitute teacher at St. Alphonsus Elementary School. She began a new and much loved career at Yorkton Union Hospital working in the Central Supply Department for the next twenty-five years. Throughout her life Mary always had a passion for learning and she thrived in the hospital environment. She made many life long friends there. Mary loved her home, her family and her friends. She loved reading, especially poetry, she had a keen interest in geography and she was always ready to discuss politics and religion. Mary's final home was at Gladstone Seniors Residence in Yorkton where she lived out her final days comfortable and very happy. She developed special relationships with her caregivers and enjoyed learning about their lives. Mary lived her life guided by her deep rooted faith in, and love of, God. She was a proud member of St. Gerard's Church where she was married, belonged to CWL and supported pro life. Mary was predeceased by her mother and father, Nick and Anna Dorosh, her brother, Walter Dorosh and her husband, John Balint; as well as, extended family members who are too numerous to list but never forgotten. She is survived by her sister, Lucy Kolenchuk and many other extended family members. Mary is further survived by her daughters, Rosanne Jones (Barry Jones), Joanne Balint and her son Bryan Balint (Lois Balint); her adored grandchildren, Jodi Jones (Ryan Figas), Michael Jones (Jennifer Peters), Jonathan Balint (Koula Vasilopoulos), Kelly Balint (Raegan Fodor) and Cory Balint (Amanda Balint). Gramma Mary was further blessed by five beloved great grand children; Ashley Balint (16), Leyton Balint (11), Logan Balint (7), Carter Balint (3) and soon to be born a baby sister for Carter. A Prayer Vigil was held on Sunday evening, May 6, 2018 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Ernie Bobowski leading the prayers. The reading was presented by Michael Jones. The Funeral Mass was held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Louis Kim Nuygen as the Celebrant. Pianist's, Chris Fisher and Diana Hornung accompanied St. Gerard's Choir in the singing of the hymns. Serving as cross bearers were Leyton & Logan Balint. The readings at the Mass were given by Koula Vasilopoulos and Ashley Balint. The Gift Bearers were Jonathan Balint, Kelly Balint and Cory Balint. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Harvey Kolodziejak, Craig Dobko, Ward Manahan, Barry Czinkota, Rodney Denesik and Jonathan Balint serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Mary's life may be made to the Saskatoon Children's Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society as gifts of remembrance.
