Obituary of Earl Olson
OLSON - Mr. Earl Olson of Yorkton, beloved husband of Ruth Olson entered into rest on August 16, 2011 at Regina, Saskatchewan. Earl Clifford Olson was born November 23, 1924 in Leroy, Saskatchewan to Olaf and Hilda (nee Solo) Olson. He entered into rest on August 16, 2011 at Regina, Saskatchewan. In his early years he drove Trolley buses in Hamilton, Ontario, as well as driving tanker trucks for Texaco and then went on to become head of the new bulk plant in Sarnia. He then became part owner of Wentworth Industries in Ontario, this was a steel fabricating company and best known for the large lit cross on the hill overlooking Hamilton at The Devils Punch Bowl. Earl served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was trained as a wireless operator. He was a member in good standing of the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and the A.N.A.F. Club. Earl loved animals and often adopted them if they showed up in the yard. He enjoyed many activities including golfing, bowling, darts, curling, billiards and horse shoes in his spare time. Earl was predeceased by his parents, Olaf and Hilda and brother Walter. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth, two daughters, Corrine and Gail. Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, sister's Vivian Stinson and Ethel Kerr, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 20th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Raymond Bailey officiating. The hymns, 'In The Garden', 'Amazing Grace' and 'Nearer My God To Thee' were included in the service. The brethren of the Yorkton Masonic Lodge #12 AF and AM conducted their Tribute Service. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Alexander Ross Branch #77 conducted a Tribute Service in honour of their comrade, Earl. Memorials honouring Earl's life can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Yorkton and District Nursing Home.
