Obituary of Peter Beblow

BEBLOW - Mr. Peter Beblow passed away peacefully, with his children at his side on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Yorkton Hospital. He was 94 years of age. Peter was born on July 5, 1917, in the Whitesand district, south of Good Spirit Lake, a son to Nick and Dora (nee Shumay). He grew up on the family farm and attended Beblo School. Often he was kept at home to help with the farm work. After his schooling, he worked with his Dad on the farm until World War II. At the age of 25 he enlisted in the army where he served with the 3rd Battalion Regina Rifles Regiment. He was stationed in BC. In February, 1944 he was discharged from the army and came home to once again work on his Dad's farm. On November 26, 1944, Peter and Anne Derow, also from the Whitesand area, were married in St. Mary's Church in Yorkton. In the spring of 1945, they began farming on a half-section in the Orcadia area. Peter and Anne immediately took on the task of establishing a mixed farming operation, and the farm soon became occupied with horses, cattle, chickens, pigs and the usual cats and dog. They had a great fondness and love for the farm and its way of life. They farmed until 1980, when they sold the farm to their son, Allan, and moved into Yorkton. Peter loved softball. In his younger days of playing, he always played third base. He later became a devoted fan when his sons played ball, and later a fan when his grandsons played. He also enjoyed watching the Blue Jays on TV. He always loved to play pool, at first in town with his buddies, and later at his home with his children and grandchildren. In retirement, Peter enjoyed playing horseshoes and bingo. He also enjoyed fishing. He loved being out in his yard and garden and visiting with friends and relatives. He took every opportunity to be with his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours sitting outside during the summer months reminiscing about earlier days; how he started his farm with six horses, and sold the horses when he bought his first tractor, and selling a bushel of wheat for 22 cents. Peter was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church, and his faith was always a core part of his life. In 2006, Peter moved into the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, where he lived until his passing. He was a kind and loving father, was always a wonderful support to his family, and will be dearly missed. He loved to have the family together and loved to hear the sound of children's laughter. He cherished his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory four children: Shirley (Edmund) Hudy of Saskatoon, Allan (Patty) Beblow of Yorkton, Andy (Sandy) Beblow of Yorkton, and Agnes (Michael) Geysen of Star City; grandchildren: David Beblow (Heather and her daughter, Charleese), Lariene Blackburn (Dave), Craig Beblow (Sheila), Tricia Chisholm (Brian), Trevor Hudy, Teresa Morgan (Curtis), Carla Hudy, and Curtis Geysen; and great-grandchildren: Lucie, Brady, and Benjamin Blackburn; Ty and Nina Chisholm; and Owen and Reed Morgan; a sister, Sonia Unick (Nick), a brother, Danny Byblow (Angie); a sister-in-law Lillian Byblow; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Dora and Nick Byblow, his wife Anne, brothers: Dan, Mike, Steven, Bill and Tom and two brothers in infancy; sisters: Pauline, Mary, Anne, Pearl, and Kathy. A prayer service was held on Sunday, August 28th and the Requiem Divine Liturgy on Monday, August 29th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Tricia Chisholm and the epistle reader was Craig Beblow. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with David Beblow, Craig Beblow, Trevor Hudy, Curtis Geysen, Bobby Byblow and William Chupa serving as the casket bearers. The Legion Burial Rite was conducted by members of the General Alexander Ross Branch#77. Reflections of Peter's life were shared by granddaughter, Lariene Blackburn.
